Iris
Welcome to Iris.
Iris provides support to individuals who have experienced sexual assault.
We also support those who have been affected by another person’s assault.
We are holistic in our approach, assisting you to identify how trauma has impacted your physical and psychological health, and helping you to build resilience and therefore recovery.
We are confidential. Your details are not shared with your GP unless you request it.
We understand how difficult it can be reaching out for support. Once we have received your referral you will be contacted within three working days, where we will complete a health-based assessment to help us understand more about your support needs. From here you will be allocated a SAA (Sexual Assault Advocate) who will work with you to develop a needs led support plan. Our SAA’s will support you in developing the tools and resources needed to build resilience that will assist your journey to recovery.
Confidentiality
Our priority at Iris is that those who come to us for support feel safe and secure and feel that they can build trust with the service. Because of this, we want to be very clear from the start what ‘confidentiality’ means for us. Everything that you talk about with your allocated worker is private and they will keep very brief notes which will be stored securely. Only members of the organisation who work directly with Iris will have access to these files. In some exceptional circumstances we have a responsibility to pass on certain information. However, we would always try to discuss this with you first and, where possible, act with your consent. The circumstances in which we have a duty to inform the appropriate authorities include:
- We are concerned that a child in your life may be at risk of harm or abuse
- We are concerned that you may be at risk of serious harm from yourself or others
- We are obliged by a court of law to provide case notes
- We are made aware of anything which we are legally obliged to report including but not limited to acts of terrorism, money laundering, drug trafficking We want to reassure that we will not disclose any information about you to any other agencies or third parties without your knowledge and consent apart from in exceptional circumstances.
